18/01/07 - Veni, vidi, vici Les fouilles de la structure d'habitat de la zone IV du site ont été précédées puis accompagnées par le travail du topographe. Pour le visiteur qui arrivait sur place, cette maison se présentait comme un amas de planches et de poutres la plupart brisées, superposées, croisées, dans un désordre indescriptible, d'où émergeaient les restes de la partie supérieure de la charpente. Que cachait ce tas sans ordre logique apparent ? Cette accumulation de bois blanchi par la pluie et le soleil ne recouvrait-elle pas des objets uniques, témoignages et reliques de ceux qui avaient occupé les lieux il y a plus d'un siècle ? et archéologues à l'ouvrage sous l'œil admiratifdu skua Marcel, l'aigle de notre auguste César. Avez-vous essayé de dessiner un jeu de Mikado dont tous les éléments sont imbriqués dans un mélange confus ? Topographier les vestiges de la maison d'habitation revenait au même ! Des centaines et des centaines de points furent ainsi relevés. Le plus compliqué arriva lors du dessin, lorsqu'il fallut joindre les uns aux autres tous ces points. Mais une fois le travail terminé, quel bel outil de réflexion ! Telle poutre, telle autre poutre, planche, sans signification apparente prises individuellement, retrouvaient alors une cohérence. On pouvait échafauder une théorie sur la manière dont s'était écroulée la maison. Elle ne s'était pas effondrée sur elle-même, mais s'était couchée sur le coté, sous les assauts du vent, après des années et des années de dégradation sous un climat sévère.  Environ
12 cm par 5 cm,les dimensions de l'extase. Restait un dernier point à régler : sous l'épaisseur des racines d'aceana, impossible de retrouver les limites de la maison. C'est alors que le plan dressé vint au secours des archéologues. L'examen raisonné de l'orientation des poutres et divers éléments majeurs relevés permit de bâtir une hypothèse. D'un doigt autoritaire, le topographe intima : "Il faut creuser ici !". Quelle jubilation, quelle félicité quand à cet endroit apparut l'un des coins de la maison. "Veni, vidi, vici." aurait dit César ! Mais un petit topographe n'a rien de César, fût-t-il de Toulon. 18/01/07 - Veni, vidi, vici The excavation the dwelling structure of the area n° IV was preceded and then accompanied by the work of a topographer. For the unsuspecting visitor, this house could be seen as a muddled mass of boards and beams for the most part broken, stacked, laying cross wise, in an indescribable mess, from which emerged the remains of the upper part of the framework. What was hidden under this pile with no apparent logic? This accumulation of wood pieces, weather whitened by the rain and the sun, did it disguise some unique objects, remnants that were the witness to those who occupied the site more than a century ago? Has anybody every tried to draw an image of the game Mikado, where all the parts overlap in confusion? Topography of the remains of the dwelling amounted to this! It was necessary to register and record hundreds and hundreds of points. The most complicated part was in joining all the points when executing the drawing. But this job done, what a wonderful tool for understanding we had! Beams and boards, totally incoherent individually, took on a new meaning. We could now construct a theory on the way in which the dwelling had collapsed. It did not cave in but blew over on its side under the continuous battering of the wind, following years and years of deterioration in a harsh climate. Approximately
12 cm by 6 cm,the dimensions of the "wonder". There remained a final point to be determined: under the density of the roots of aceana, impossible to locate the perimeter of the dwelling! That's when the site plan that had been drawn came to the rescue of the archaeologists. Shrewd analysis of the orientation of the rafters and various other important elements allowed a theory to take form. With the wave of an authoritative hand the topographer cries: "Dig here". What jubilation and what joy when, at that spot, the corners of the dwelling emerged. "Veni, vidi, vici" would have said Cesar. But a humble topographer is nothing of a Cesar, even if he hails from Toulon. 18.01.07 - Veni, vidi, vici Die Ausgrabungen und Untersuchungen an den Gebäuderesten im Bereich von Markierung IV schreiten voran. Sie werden von der Arbeit des Topographen begleitet. Der erste Eindruck für den Besucher der Grabungsfläche ist sehr verwirrend. Es sieht wie ein heilloses Durcheinander aus meist zerbrochenen Brettern und Balken, die alle kreuz und quer übereinander liegen, aus. Lediglich die Reste des Dachstuhls ragen aus dem Chaos heraus. Was versteckt sich unter diesem scheinbar unlogisch aufgebauten Haufen? Diese Akkumulation von Sonne und Regen gebleichten Hölzern weckt das Interesse. Sind dort einzigartige über hundert Jahre alte Objekte, die Zeugnis von den damaligen Bewohnern des Hauses geben, verborgen und warten darauf entdeckt zu werden? Topograph
und Archäologinnen bei der Arbeit.Unser Maskottchen "Marcel" passt genau auf. Hat schon mal jemand versucht einen Plan eines Mikadospiels zu zeichnen, wenn noch keines der Stäbchen entfernt wurde und alles übereinander liegt? Die Aufgabe des Topographen ist mit einem solchen Job zu vergleichen. Die Position von hunderten von Punkten musste bestimmt werden. Noch schwieriger war es dann aus diesen Punkten einen Plan zu erstellen. Nachdem diese Aufgabe beendet worden war, hatten wir ein wundervolles Werkzeug zur Hand. Die scheinbar zusammenhanglosen Balken und Bretter erhielten so eine völlig neue Bedeutung. Wir haben so herausgefunden, dass das Haus nicht in sich zusammengefallen ist, sondern wahrscheinlich zu einer Seite hin umfiel. Danach war alles über Jahrzehnte den grässlichen klimatischen Bedingungen hier ausgesetzt. Ungefähr
12 cm lang und 6 cm Durchmesser! Das ist die Dimension des "Wunders". Die letzte Aufgabe war es dann zu bestimmen, welchen Grundriss das Haus hatte. Die Aceana hat einem dabei das Leben nicht leichter gemacht, aber trotzdem war der Plan den Archäologen an dieser Stelle eine sehr große Hilfe. Durch die Analyse der Orientierung der einzelnen Balken konnten Theorien erstellt werden. So konnte unter der Aufsicht und nach Berechnungen des Topographen eine der Ecken des Hauses ermittelt werden. "Veni, vidi, vici" hätte wohl Caesar an dieser Stelle gesagt. Aber ein bescheidener Topograph ist wohl nicht mit Caesar zu vergleichen, selbst wenn er bei Toulon gesiegt hat. |
