19/01/07 - Interlude 19/01/07 - Interlude After the festivities for the New Year at Port aux Français, we returned to down town ArchaeObs city where, since, things have been happening. As you know already, each morning at the break of dawn, the archaeologists leave their residential suburb to venture into the ancient quarters of the city and, to be precise, to the old house just around the corner - called in archaeology jargon, the structure of the dwelling in zone IV - which is revealing its secrets.  In
fact, during these last fifteen days, the archaeologist's relentless
work in the harshest weather, arrived at the ground floor of the dwelling.
After having removed the last few household elements that were left behind
by the last occupants, the floorboards appeared still covered with the
its antique linoleum.The floor - when still in place - was not completely visible to the archaeologists. There remained still a few square meters to strip. What was already exposed got a last sweep of the broom and they then prepared to go spend some well earned rest at the town nearby. Tomorrow around midday they will take the barge, loading it with artefacts that have been duly packaged and their personal effects which will be feed into the washing machines back at the base. They will catch up with you in a few days time. Do you know the name of our barge? The Aventure! 19.01.07 - Intermezzo Nach den Feierlichkeiten zum neuen Jahr in Port aux Français kehrten wir zur Beobachtungsbucht zurück, wo sich das Geschehen abspielte. Jeden Tag verließen die Archäologen im Morgengrauen ihr Quartier um in den Überresten des alten Hauses gleich um die Ecke nach archäologisch wertvollen Fundstücken zu suchen. Um im archäologischen Jargon zu bleiben: Zone IV erwies sich als sehr ergiebig. Die
Arbeit der letzten 15 Tage war es den Boden des Hauses archäologisch
zu untersuchen. Nachdem das Mobiliar der letzten Bewohner entfernt worden
war, wurde der ehemalige Laufhorizont, der immer noch aus mit Linoleum
belegten alten Dielenbrettern bestand, in mühsamer Arbeit freigelegt.Dort, wo der alte Laufhorizont noch vorhanden ist, war er nicht immer sichtbar für die Archäologen. Einige Quadratmeter müssen noch freigelegt werden. Der bereits freigelegte Teil wurde noch einmal kontrolliert und dann bereitete man sich auf einen wohlverdienten Kurzurlaub vor. Morgen Mittag werden wir zusammen mit den Fundstücken auf dem Seeweg nach Port aux Français transportiert, wo die Gelegenheit besteht die Wäsche zu waschen. In ein paar Tagen kehren wir wieder zur Beobachtungsbucht zurück. Dann werden hier auch wieder neue Berichte veröffentlicht. Weist du wie unser Boot heißt? Die Adventure! |
