| 04/02/07 - Absent Friends "Sarah, we are endeavouring to repatriate via the diplomatic pouch, your stock of Vegemite in time for your return to the gentle shores of your Australia !" Sarah
says that the beachesare not so crowded in Tassie! She was inspired to participate on the ArchaeObs project by her admiration for the earlier explorers of the 19th century voyages of discovery. She carried out extensive research on the British Astronomers Expedition in 1874 to Observatory Bay before the onset of our fieldwork campaign and her precious work continues to contribute daily to our understanding and interpretation of this complex site, occupied at several points in time by different nationalities. After a brilliant cooperation between Australia and France , coordinated by TAAF (Terres Australes et Antarctiques Françaises) involving impressive naval and human resources from both parties, she was duly transferred from Kerguelen to St. Denis de la Réunion where she underwent a completely successful operation on Sunday 4 th February. Happily, her family are at her bedside. All of the team of ArchaeObs, from the archaeological site of Observatory Bay, wish her a speedy recovery in time to benefit from the lovely sunny weather and beautiful scenery of the Reunion before returning to home in Hobart, Australia. Her skills and experience in archaeology, object management, interpretation and her gifted photography are missed by us all greatly. Cheers to our 'absent friend' and see you soon, Sarah! |
